GET CASH BACK WITH EARNED INCOME TAX CREDITS (EITC)

California and federal EITC are refundable credits available to low-to-moderate income individuals and families.

If you worked in 2018 and your household earned income was less than $55,000, you may qualify for cash-back tax credits that can increase your refund. The expanded California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), along with a similar federal credit, can result in hundreds or even thousands of extra dollars.
You must file your taxes to claim the credits!

ABOUT OC FREE TAX PREP

Through the OC FREE TAX PREP coalition, United Way, Citi and all partners work to increase the number of financially stable households in Orange County. Coalition members play unique roles, each working to positively impact the financial health and resiliency of Orange County residents by assisting hardworking taxpayers to earn, keep, and save their money. Key OC FREE TAX PREP activities are providing free tax preparation services to the low-income community, and conducting outreach and education, raising awareness-of and access-to tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credits, which result in money returned to our community, often bolstering a struggling family’s ability to provide for their children, as well as stimulate the local economy.

Last year, we filed almost 19,000 tax returns throughout Orange County, bringing $16.3 million in federal and state refunds back to the pockets of hard-working individuals. Over $4.6 million returned was through the Earned Income Tax Credits. We estimate that a minimum of $3.83 million was saved on tax preparation fees through our services.

Tax refunds help stabilize low and moderate-income families by helping struggling families provide for their children, as well as stimulate the local economy. Through the OC FREE TAX PREP initiative, United Way, Citi and its partners are working toward a better tomorrow to break the cycle of poverty by increasing the number of financially stable households in Orange County.
